Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you may have questions about our approach and services. Here are some of the most common inquiries to help you get started.

What does somatic mean?

Somatic comes from the Greek word "soma," meaning "body." It refers to the lived, first-person experience of being in your body—your sensations, emotions, and internal awareness in the present moment.

How can integrative somatic counselling help me?

Somatic counselling addresses trauma stored in the body. By focusing on physical sensations, movement, and mindfulness, this approach helps you metabolize frozen experiences, reduce emotional overwhelm, and foster self-compassion. It’s a holistic way to reconnect with your body and mind.

Do I need to have trauma-related issues to benefit from your services?

Not at all. While somatic counselling is highly effective for trauma, it’s also beneficial for anyone seeking greater self-awareness, emotional balance, or relief from chronic stress. Our work together can help you build resilience, process emotions, and create lasting positive changes.

How many sessions will I need?

Every individual is unique. While some clients notice changes after a few sessions, I typically recommend starting with eight sessions to explore the modalities and their impact on your healing journey.

Do we talk during sessions?

Yes, talking is an integral part of somatic trauma counselling. However, unlike traditional talk therapy, our focus shifts to exploring your bodily sensations and experiences as they arise, fostering a deeper connection between your mind and body.

What is Somatic Movement Therapy?

Somatic Movement Therapy uses gentle, mindful movement and hands-on techniques (not massage) to release chronic muscle tension, restore natural movement, and support healing from pain, trauma, or stress. It helps reconnect mind and body, fostering greater comfort, flexibility, and resilience.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes! Many of our services, including private yoga and somatic trauma counselling, are available online. This flexibility allows you to access support from the comfort of your home.

What does a free consultation involve?

Our complimentary 20-minute consultation is an opportunity to discuss your needs, explore how our services can support you, and determine the best path forward.

Who can benefit from these services?

Our offerings are ideal for anyone seeking a holistic approach to mental, emotional, and physical well-being. We specialize in supporting individuals dealing with unresolved trauma, chronic pain, anxiety, and a desire for deeper self-connection.
